Things to Consider When Having Children at Your Wedding

Weddings are a joyous occasion that typically gather a large number of your family and friends together! Though the majority of your guests will most likely be adults, if you’re planning to have children attend your wedding as well, there are some things you may want to consider when hosting these young guests!

Whether you’re planning for your guest list to include kids OR if you have children of your own, these tips to consider when having keiki at your wedding will cover HOW to include them and to keep them entertained, as well as different ways to accommodate them and parents at your wedding!

How to Include Children in Your Wedding

Though this may be your special day, including children to be part of your wedding festivities can make them feel special too! One of the most popular ways that we often see kids included, is in the wedding party as the flower girl and ring bearer! Nothing gets everyone more excited to see a wedding begin like a cute face walking (or sometimes waddling) down the aisle! And if they’re a little older, you can also incorporate them in your wedding party, as a junior bridesmaid or groomsman!

As your wedding party can include your family & friend’s children as well as your own, if you’re looking for a special way to include just your own kids into your wedding consider having them be a part of your ceremony! In Hawaii, lei as well as sand ceremonies are a popular tradition that can symbolize the joining together of not just two individuals but of two families as well! This is a sweet and simple way to make your keiki feel included in your marriage too!

How to Keep Children Entertained at Your Wedding

Though you may have been dreaming of this day forever, an all-day celebration like a wedding can definitely feel like FOREVER to a kid! So keeping them entertained is something to consider when having them present! Other than through games that you can play during your reception program, another way to keep children entertained at your wedding is with a little goodie bag made specifically for them!

This children’s goodie bag is something that they could pick-up at the registration table or find as a favor at their seat! Designating a goodie bag full of fun things to keep their hands and minds occupied is a great way to make them feel special for being there and entertained the whole time!

Ways to Accommodate Kids/Parents at Your Wedding

We’ve covered ways to include kids as well as keep them entertained, but one way to accommodate them into your wedding is by making your meal selections with them in mind. Especially if you will be serving your guests a plated meal, ensuring that you select a yummy kids meal is a way to make them feel considered at your wedding! Children’s meals are offered at most venues, and come with the classic foods that any kid would be hungry for!

And as we can’t go over all the different ways to include children without mentioning how to accommodate their parents as well, there are a few things you could also do to make sure the parents can enjoy their evening too! Such as having a kids corner, where parents can play with their children in a designated area of the reception venue. As well as reserving a private nursing room for any new mothers who may need to nurse during your wedding day.

We hope these tips will help you plan your perfect kid-friendly wedding! :-)
