If you’ve spent any time researching the cost of a Wedding Planner, you know first hand that the cost ranges very widely and can be anywhere from $100-$20,000+. For that reason, we want to explain the 3 various ways Wedding Planners typically determine their fee.
HOURLY
Some Wedding Planners may charge an “hourly” rate for their services which means you will be paying them similarly to how you would an attorney. Depending on how many hours they put in work for your wedding would determine your cost. The “hourly” tracking could begin from work done before the wedding day (ie: creating a timeline, confirming with vendors, etc.) and continue to the number of hours they work on your actual wedding day. NOTE: ***This can be a little challenging on a strict budget as you may not be fully aware of all of the work (hours) needed to get everything you want done when you are first looking for a Wedding Planner.
FLAT RATE
The 3rd way Wedding Planners charge is by simply quoting a “flat rate” based on the work they anticipate. While this method may be the hardest for a Wedding Planner to accurately get compensated, A Perfect Day uses this method because it allows our clients to be able to work within their budget while not worrying that by choosing a vendor that costs more or needing our help for a few more hours will break their budget. After being in business for over 18 years, we have come up with a formula that allows us to determine how much time and work will be needed prior to the wedding day along with how many staff and for how many hours of coverage will be needed on your wedding day.
PERCENTAGE
Another way Wedding Planners charge their clients is by charging a percentage of their client’s expenses. This method is most commonly seen when Wedding Planners are hired for “Full Coordination”. As an example, if your Wedding Planner hired a photographer for your wedding and they photographer’s contract was for $6,000, if the Wedding Planner charges a 10% fee, you would owe your Wedding Planner $600.
